Should you Use A Pool Cover For Your Swimming Pool?
Yes because
evaporation is a major source of heat loss for all swimming pools. When
you use a pool cover, you immediately reduce heating costs of up to 70%.
Now that you know you definitely need a pool cover, what should you look
when purchasing a pool cover?
At first glance, a large sheet of
plastic bought from a hardware store sounds ideal. But you’ll need
to contend with storage problems, durability and wear & tear. Will
it keep your energy costs down?
Here’s what you should look for when selecting a pool cover.
1) Buy a pool cover from manufacturers who specifically
design covers made for pools. Look them up at the yellow pages
directory, or ask for references from friends and neighbors.
2) Know what you want to achieve by using a pool cover, this
will help you decide what materials you’d want your pool cover to
be. They come in a variety of materials such as UV stabilized
polyethylene, polypropylene, or vinyl. Vinyl covers are made of
heavier materials and last longer. Or you could buy a bubble cover;
this cover is similar to the common bubble packing material, except
that it’s thicker plastic and have UV inhibitors.
3) Decide, do you want the cover to be transparent or opaque?
Light or dark colored? A pool cover will, depending on what you
pick, increase or decrease the solar gain distribution. A
transparent bubble cover will reduce solar energy absorption 5-15%
and a completely opaque cover by 20-40%.
Aside from keeping energy costs down, pool covers conserve water by
reducing the amount of replacement water needed by about 30%-50%. A
pool cover will also reduce time spent removing dirt and debris that
have fallen into the pool.......
